Elevation Chiropractic has been a part of our community since 1987. Over the years, we have been privileged to serve many area families. Among them have been numerous pediatric patients who we love to see benefitting from chiropractic early in life.
Starting Care Early in Life
Some people wonder, why would a child need to see a chiropractor? Trauma to the spine begins so early that your baby can enter the world already having problems from the birthing process. Their spine is compressed in the birth canal and often causes subluxations/misalignments which affects overall health.
From that point on, your child begins to develop. They start to roll over, crawl, stand, walk, run and then move onto even more activities such as playing sports. With each of these developments, it’s inevitable that they trip, fall and hurt themselves. These microtraumas rarely cause pain and begin causing damage to the spine due to subluxations/misalignments. Since children rarely complain of pain, you may not know that they’re doing damage to their spines. That makes taking them in for a chiropractic checkup essential to their good health.
Checking Your Baby
You can bring your baby in as soon as you’re ready to after they’ve been born. We’ll perform an examination with palpation, checking reflexes and looking for signs of hip dysplasia.
When we adjust an infant or child, it’s much different than an adjustment for an adult. We may use the Activator® tool or simply a light touch of our fingertips. Your baby can stay in your arms or lie comfortably on you to have their adjustment. Likely, your infant will sleep right through it! If your child is a bit older and feels nervous, we’ll make sure they know we’re not like a typical doctor’s office. We’ll get them to laugh, relax and enjoy their visits with us.
Seeing Multiple Generations
We’ve seen one pediatric patient about 30 years ago. Just a toddler, he had issues going to the bathroom and the doctors recommended several different medical interventions. Instead, his parents brought him to Elevation Chiropractic. All of his issues cleared up. Decades later, the boy was all grown up. He came in again with his wife and their young son, who was having similar problems. In just a couple of weeks, the boy was no longer constipated or wetting the bed.
